Some good news at least

BBC NEWS | Election 2006 | Seat-by-seat | Islington council

Labour actually gained 12 councillors in my local council. They threw out the only conservative.

Wish the news had been that way throughout the country.

We need Campbell back.

Mrs Murdoch

There's a new one!

This weekend was spent dealing with the whole wedding phenomenon.

Can see what all the fuss is about now, though I hope I will manage a good amount of singledom before this kind of day happens to me! Posted by Picasa

Why make up is good for society

http://www.ctpa.org.uk/download.asp?dl=1104

This is a report by the trade group of the cosmetics industry, arguing how 'self esteem' can create a better society. 40 pages of report building a case for why young people should use cosmetics.

Graffitti attack on Air Force One?

StillFree.com

So difficult to tell whether stuff is true or not - is this a fake video?

Looks very convincing, guards and everything. But a little too good - is that truly how they guard Air force one? Shouldn't it be in a hangar?

Good idea though, and I'm sure the publicity hasn't harmed this site.

Couldn't find anything in the news about the vandalism.

'Girl' Houses

Been a while since I've been in a house which has been run exclusively for girls.

But still.

Ivy round the shower pipe and some sort of shell shape around the sponge?

More Silliness

Tried to see what Cillit Bang would do to pennies and to other assorted household goods.

Nothing!

Pennies didn't become shinier.

Sugar failed to react.

Broken CD did nothing.

Courgette didn't do anything.

Aubergine didn't do anything.

Neither did Marmite.

Nor Oregano.

Potato Man!

Spent last night doing a bit of a blue peter thing, making a man out of vegetables.

I wasn't on my own doing this, I was with my flatmates.

There's a new flat mate moving in, someone who happens to work just round the corner from me. She (yes - a girl!!) seems really really nice.

Did have to hide the vegetable man from her when she came round to drop off some stuff. We would have looked slightly strange otherwise! Posted by Picasa

Freakonomics

Saw this poster for Freakonomics. Strange seeing a product you're very familiar with being repositioned so aggressively.

Freakonomics was originally marketed very much as an intellectual book. It had a very subtle and muted cover and the reviews talked about how it made you think. Now it looks like a story about the case studies it presents rather than as a new way of looking at economics.

To be fair, this new approach probably comes closer to what the book actually was. Just still a shock to see such a change in the image of the book. Posted by Picasa

Mansion club in Miami

Went to some fancy club in South Beach, and not for a dnb event.

There was a rumour that this club was owned and run by p diddy. Although we were later told that this wasn't true, it sounded good.

It was full of beautiful people and absolutely heaving.

The theme of the place was very much in keeping with the name, there were suits of armour, chandeliers and loads of other fancy pants little touches. Very very classy venue. Posted by Picasa

Funny Little Story

Hello from Miami.

Having an awesome time out here at hte moment, running around and having fun. Looking at all the beautiful people and generally enjoying myself.

Met up with John B today, a very well known dnb and electro artist, which was quite fun. I'm not just name-dropping though. Amusingly, this guy (the sign says "I've been stalking John B on Myspace") randomly turned up.

He's been posting pictures of his haircut on dogsonacid.com recently, and also posted pictures of his bedroom where he's put up a huge sign saying "I LOVE JOHN B." Anyway, very funny conversation ensued.

To John B's credit, he was very polite and pleasant to his stalker, I think I would have run away immediately... He did manage to not give the man his mobile number though!

VIew from our Apartment

This is the view from our balcony on our apartment.

SOOO much better than a hotel - we've got a little kitchen, separate bedrooms, two widescreen tvs, one of those fridges which make ice for you...

All coupled with a forty second walk to the beach!! Posted by Picasa

Things Falling from the Sky

This isn't a doctored photo in any way. There's a strange house near Oxford with a Shark sticking out the top of it.

Even more weirdly, the top hasn't been sealed properly, so there's a hole in the roof. THe shark itself is going into a very derelict house...

Strange idea for a decoration. Posted by Picasa

Revolution Awards

Went to the Revolution awards as a guest of Yahoo. Really fun evening. It was good to get to know some people at other agencies on the table, together with running into nearly all the people within the industry around the bar after the food.

The host was Al Murray, who did a surprisingly good job. If I was the paying for the tables at the front though, he was quite harsh towards the guests at that end.

Managed to stick around till about four or five in the morning, which is always the sign of a good party. When I first started going to these, I got too drunk and had to go home early before embarassing myself. Maybe I am starting to learn how to pace myself!

Didn't win any awards and didn't notice my agency win any significant awards, but I might have missed some. It began difficult to pay attention after a couple of minutes into the proper bit of the award ceremony. I wonder if guests at the oscars particularly pay attention after the first couple of awards. Posted by Picasa
